What is the name of your state? CA
My husband and I bought a house in Feb that was in the process of being built. There were a number of extensions by the builder due to work not being completed. We were supposed to close today but a number of items came up on the home inspectors report that were pretty big - master shower not operational, roof missing shingles, standing water in the duct work under the house, furnace wired backwards.
The big problem was that when I called PG&E (the gas and electric company here in CA) to get a meter set I was told that because of a "conflict" that PG&E has with the builder I could not get power or gas. I was told by PG&E that my builder was aware of the problems and that once he'd resolved them they would come out to give me power and gas. I learned today that the builder didn't pay PG&E for something related to another property he built last year and that PG&E is holding my house hostage in order to get the money from my builder. The builder has told me that because I didn't close escrow today (regardless of the fact that there's no gas no power) I am in breach of contract and he will put the house back on the market. I thought that I needed gas and power in order for the house to be habitable. I of course don't want to lose the house. They have our deposit and we've been very reasonable about all their extensions. However, how am I supposed to live in a home with a portapotty on the front lawn, no hot water and no electricity. It's baffling how I'm supposed to close escrow.
Totally at wits end!
