Our daughter and son-in -law are considering building a home on our son-in-law's grandfather's property. He has commented that he is giving them the land however he is not legally signing over the property to them. My son-in-law's family believes the grandfather will leave them the property in his will, but no-one knows for sure. Legally, who would own the house since it is on his property? Could it be taken away by relatives? Finally, if the house is on the grandfather's property and my daughter divorces her husband, could they claim since the house is on the grandfather's property it is his so my daughter would have no claim to her half of the house? This is in the state of Kansas.
