Hello,
I have recently been turned into the building department in California's inland Monterey County. The dispute is over buildings that are alleged to have been built without a permit. The issue resides over three sheds (one is two story), a car port, and a guest house.
It may not be relevant, however our building department has moved several times in the last 10 years (at least three times), and every time they lose at least one of my permits and i have a similar problem. foprtunately i have paperwork on everything except the sheds.
The reason i am writing this time is in regards to the three sheds. I purchased this property back in the early 80's and when i bought it, these three sheds were present on the property. I was told that they had been built back in the 40's and they didn't need permits because they were old. I have spent a lot of money up keeping these sheds and it seems i am forced with 2 options, pay a huge fine or tear them down. I do not want to do either. Can the building department really force me into this having absolutely no proof otherwise.
Any enlightenment on my predicament will be greatly appreciated.
