i am from maine. i received a restaurant gift certificate for christmas, the business has since closed. don't they have to redeem the certificate and give me the money? isn't this considered stealing?

My response:

If the business filed Bankruptcy, then no. In that instance, you're out of luck.

If they merely closed their doors, then you have a potential cause of action for return of your money by suing the business owner in Small Claims court.

The problem is, is the amount worth the effort ?
