Buying a house over 4 hrs. away

I live on Long Island, N.Y. I am interested in buying a house which is over 4 hours away. I am planning on going to see this house next week, but I can't make a decision on the spot. If I give the real estate a binder, contingent on my daughters approval will that hold the house for me and for how long. Also what is the least dollar amount I can give them? This house is also in N.Y.
