CA: Jury Duty & Public Transportation

Hi,

I live in California. I am currently on call for jury duty. Last night, when I checked it at the website, it said I am to call in at 11:15 for a possible 12:30 appearance. Well, I don't have a car and public transportation cannot get me to the courthouse by 12:30 if I find out at 11:15 I have to go in. Is it legal for them to make it inaccessible for someone using public transportation? It's not illegal to not own a car or not have a driver's license.

Legal, yes.

Reasonable, no.

Write a very nice letter (explaining your situation clearly and simply and plainly) to the court clerk, send it certified mail, return receipt requested.

Will it keep you out of jail?

I don't know, but it is worth a shot.

Call the court and speak with the clerk in charge of jury services and explain your situation otherwise go the the court, many counties let you know the night before that doesn't seem practical in some cases if you work a long distance away either. What county are you in?
