Thanks djdj. I looked into the california state resources. I could not find anything that pertains to tenant rights concerning rent restitution for illegal additions. Although, I'm sure it is in there. If the violations are not taken of while the tenant is still renting, can the landlord rent out the resident to another tenant. My lease is up in June, but I was told the lessor can put off fixing these things indefinately. So how can I find out if I have the right to ask to have my rent reduced since this house is legally a one bedroom house?
