Hi, I currently live in California as a collage student and sold my car as it was an old junker that wasn't working anymore. I removed the insurance on it and tried to file the release of liability form online but it didn't confirm due to site issues which I was unaware of until much later. A month later the new driver of the car got into a collision and acquired several parking tickets (Which I have paid or mitigated) and now the other drivers insurance company is contacting me about his claim.

I resubmitted the liability form and double checked it but the damage is done now.

I don't own nearly anything or have money stored away that I can use so what can I do about this? I don't know if the new driver had insurance or not and I'm unsure what to expect when I talk to the company so any advice would be really appreciated.

You didn't fill in the buyer's name on the title when you sold it?
He filled out his name and information on the title when I sold it but the first and last name of the person who is on the claim don't match up with the man I sold it too. This is why I assume he sold it to someone else and it wasn't stolen.

So the question is/ if the title was transferred, twice no less, why are they contacting you now?
Well I'd guess its because my release of liability wasn't successfully filed until after I was aware that the car had gathered up several parking tickets and gotten into a crash. I had fully thought it had gone through until I received those parking tickets in the mail.
