we moved from Michigan to California and are renting a single family home near San Francisco.

the lock on the house does not work. the key gets stuck on the outside main entry door and can only be removed by removing the entire lock. i have called the landlord for several weeks now and she does not return my calls. the last time i called, the secretary said i was wasting my time and she had nothing to do with her rental properties. the landlord has been reluctant to fix any critical items in this home she just bought before we moved in. it has been like pulling teeth! i am not talking about non-critical items. they were things like non-working faucets, overflowing water lines, plugged toilets, and, to top it off, a furnace leaking carbon monoxide. we pay $2,900 in rent.

can i just get the lock fixed? that's the message i left w/the secretary the last time i called. we can't very well leave the key stuck in the door at all hours. i've tried key spray and whatever else. this is so frustrating - we've really been taken and there are many months left on our rental agreement. help!
