What is the name of your state? California

Does anyone know if creditors can post debts as Unclaimed property on the "California Unclaimed property system" as a means of finding lost Debtors ?

What is up here is I was looking at the "California Unclaimed property system" a web site that list all "Unclaimed property" that has been submitted to the state. It is a state run list.

So I found a listing for me from about 10 years ago. From a Cell Phone company.
I don't remember any reason for them to own me money, but there might be a small chance there was a Early Termination fee left, when I ended my service with them.

The listing says they owe me $78.21, I'm wondering if this could be a ploy to get my contact information to try to collect a 10yo debt.

There is not mention of anything on my credit report about this company.

Thanks
Mindy

No creditors can't and it's not a ploy. That's a genuine list of funds that have escheated to the State. When you discover the number of hoops you'll be required to jump through, you'll believe that. Arnold has tried to accelerate the process for the State to receive those unclaimed funds, so start your claim.
