I would like to know what to do about this issue.
My son attended a Theatre Camp in Wisconsin at the end of July. Inadvertently, I lost some checks and stopped payment on that check. When I realized my mistake, I sent them another check to the director in August. I assumed the matter was Ok. However, on September 9th, the director contacted the High School Drama Teacher and said it was still not paid. (At the time, I was very busy and thought he had overlooked the payment.) However on September 23rd, director contacted the High School Drama Teacher again about the matter. I realized that the August check still had not cleared, so I issued a new one. This time, I sent it directly to the cashier in charge of the Drama Camp. This check has cleared on October 10th. On October 3, 10, 17 and 23, the director has contacted the High School Drama Teacher again on those dates and asked her why she would send a kid to theatre camp who can't pay his bills? The check has cleared. director has never contacted me directly, even though he said he did numerous times. He keeps contacting the High School Drama Teacher. He has damaged my relationship with her. What should I do?

I am a law school graduate. What I offer is mere information, not to be construed as forming an attorney client relationship.

Well, I am not sure what you are seeking but if you go with something like defamation, you have to show damages.

I don't think this would fall under something like slander per se, which doesn't require you actually prove your rep was damaged.

If you are truly serious about possible suit, then I suggest you speak with a lawyer in your state. However, why didn't you simply contact the camp person directly and explain what happened with the missing checks?
