I bought a camping resort site 30 years ago in Thornburg, Va. I want to get out of the contract and stop paying dues. I have not used the property in 22 years and it has been for sale that long. I let the due elaspe for 3 years and $1300 would bring me up to date but the charges are now over $5000 which is mostly interest. More dues are coming up in Oct. Also taxes, and water. How can I get out of this contract? No one will buy it and no one will take it as a donation. Any suggestions?

My response:
Have you asked the resort owners if they'll accept the deed to your property in lieu of the current debt? That is, you'll give them the property ownership if they will "wipe out" what is currently owed by you.
