Hi,
I am a F1 student working towards Ph.D. in US. I am currently on a F1 visa that will expire in 3 years (1 year after the end of my program).

I was wondering if I could legally apply for the diversity lottery in the meantime without breaching my non-immigrant status. I know that when I applied for the student visa I declared my intention of non-immigration, therefore I do not want to break any rules.

I heard contrasting opinions in this regard. My concern is whether applications to the DV lottery while on the F1 would interfere in obtaining future work visas i.e. H1B.

Thanks
Wilhelm
