What are the rules and regs against a landlord not renewing a tenant's lease in order to take the apt over for his family?

This is the second time in 1 1/2 years where the landlord is looking to do this to a tenant. Is this legal? The landlord already has an apartment (4B) available for himself and has taken over another apt (1D) and know wants to take over a third apt (5C) . What is the law ?

The landlord does not have to give any reason for not renewing the lease. The landlord just has to give proper notice (depending on the type of lease: month to month vs. fixed term) to the tenant that the lease will not be renewed.

If the landlord has 6 children of legal age, the landlord can identify 6 units and not renew the leases so his children can each rent a unit.

WRONG HOME GURU...this is NYC......

If you have a rent stabilized apartment, the landlord must prove he needs it, then take you to court and then if he gets it and doesnt use it for his personal use for 3 years.then you the tenat can sue him to get the apartment back at the last rent you wwere paying, and all damages too.....

there is more, ................... but if the landlord wants the apartment for his grandkids tell him to prove his kidsor grand kids are enrolled in the local school that should stop him.

If it is unregulated then all bets are off.
