my daughter has two part time jobs, the first is telling her she has to choose between that and the second one because they don't like having to coordinate schedules. is this legal?

Yes. IL is an "at will" employment state.

I think it's thoughtful that they're giving her a choice. Many employers would just let her go if they didn't want to accommodate another job's schedule.

It's entirely legal and not even all that uncommon when there are scheduling issues.

She should try to protect her rights to unemployment. Depending on the mix of hours, It might be best to tell them, "no." Being fired because you refused to quit is not misconduct.
