What is the name of your state? Colorado

My loan fell through, and the mortage company is asking for $500 dollars for the appraisal done on the property.

I have ask them to send over any statement that says I agreed to pay this. So far they have sent me a invoice billed to them, and my orignal contract that does not read anywhere that I would have to pay for this appraisal.

They have threatin to send this to collections if I don't pay it. Can they? Don't they have to show proof it is my debt? Will I be able to effectively protest it..

thank you
Justin

Yes they can send it to collections.
Yes you can demand proof that you owe the money. Ask them to produce proof that you agreed to pay the appraisal fee. Have you looked at the papers you signed when applying for the loan ???

Besides my mortage broker saying I did agree to it; which I never did. There is nothing that states I agreed to pay the appraisal fee. The mortage company is still threating to send it to collections. Can a company just say you owe them money, if you don't pay it goes to collections?

Yes - and no. If you are sure there was nothing in the papers saying you would pay the fee, then demand they produce the document that says you DID, just do it in writing.
