What is the name of your state? Texas

Libel, slander or defamation of character in a court of law. Lets say someone calls your employer and speaks with your boss and tells them you are a drug addict, and said boss diseminates this info around the work area and other employess proceed to ridicule you and tell customers and other vendors that you are a drug addict. I'm ready to leave my job, but at this point I seriously doubt I would be able to get a job at another job within my field as several employees of other simular companies have been told this rumor.

I was told by friends that I have a loss cause as the burden is on me to prove I'm not a drug addict. I found this hard to believe but many people have told me the same thing. If this is true is it enough to have my family and friends testify that I have never taken drugs. I mean other than that how do you prove you're not a drug addict? Can I point to the fact that the last 4 jobs I've had over the last 10 years I have had to take a drug test and have passed as way to prove my case. If anyone has had any experience with situations like this please feel free to offer advice, any and all constructive opinions are welcome. Thank you.

so who called your boss? Why do you believe your boss would be so ready to believe their story about you?

the burden of proof on such a claim (you are not a drug addict) is upon you. That is easy - you deny that you ever use drugs. The burden then shifts on the other party to provide evidence that their statement about you being a drug addict is true. if they don't have credible evidence, you win.

It was an employee from my last job. I have no clue why my boss or co-workers would believe rumor over me. I can only assume because I am stand offish and do not speak much to my co workers unless it's busniess related, that it is easier to believe any story about. I honestly don't know why some people take rumors and run with them and other will hold out until they can judge for themselves. Also there are a couple of emplyees that for some reason don't like me. It could be because they think I'm stuck up because I don't talk a lot, but I think they may be the engine kepping the rumors going.
