Can any lawyers please help?

I intend to engage a graphic artist to help do a drawing. However, I will be supplying photos, pictures, ideas and instructions etc to this artist on how I would want the drawing to be like.

So, for the completed drawing, does the artist have a Proprietary copyrights or any form of copyrights over the drawing or can it be considered as a work for hire?

Would seem to me that...

...if you're paying the person for producing what you want, by definition, that's a work for hire and is yours to do with as you like, unless there's some contractual agreement limiting the use of what's produced.

I work in the screen printing industry, so will be interested in any other comments on this thread.
