What is the name of your state? Pennsylvania

When one of us goes to a bank and makes deposits or withdrawals, the teller can see what we have in our account and how much account activity has gone on, where the checks to your account have come from, etc.

What about times when you haven't made a transaction ?

Can a nosy teller or a nosy bank employee (loan officer, new accounts person sitting at one of the desks, etc) go up to one of the bank computers and look into your account at any time ?

Or do you have to be involved in a banking transaction at the time ?

If a bank employee knew you had an account at the bank, and had your account number, can they look at your information whenever they want ?

Are there laws to prevent this or that cover the banking industry regarding this ?

It's understandable that a banks legally cannot release information about you to other companies regarding your account balances, etc.

But what laws are in place to prevent these same employees from being nosy about your account information ?

There was not a law I am aware of when I was a bank teller in the late 80s. I could view an account history even if it wasn't involving a transaction. I do know that the bank employee cannot give out information regarding the account unless it is the account holder requesting. The only other time another party can obtain your information is when you give authorization for such (example: credit application). Your account can be reviewed and acknowledged to another party regarding the funds availability of a check or draft you have written on it, though the bank employee cannot give specific account activity or balances.

Thanks.

I wouldn't be surprised if the laws today still allow nosy bank employees to check on people's accounts.

Your account info is fair game to bank employees. Also, as a former bank investment consultant I can tell you that people with high balances are printed out on a monthly list for purposes of telemarketing to generate investment business.

And there are other people not affiliated with the bank who have access to your account information anytime they want it.
(with subpoena)
FBI
NSA
CIA

(without subpoena)
State and Federal Bank Examiners

should I go on?
