What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Florida. I got a car during our marriage and now she wants a divorce and I can't afford car. The car is in my name but it was used by both of us till she got one. She has even said on many occasions that it was our car when she wanted to use it. She has taken it and used it without my permission but now that I helped fix her credit she has a car and doesn't think she owes me anything. Also when she filed for divorce we both put we didn't want anything from other but of course after I signed that she said she wouldn't help with car anymore. I had no idea she would turn into this type of person. I just need to know if I can do anything. The final hearing is coming up so it's the last chance. Any help or advice would be great.

I think that you are likely stuck. Unless it would be appropriate for her to be paying you alimony (ie you have been married for a long time and she makes lots more money than you do) and you are willing to pay an attorney to handle a contested divorce, I believe that you are going to end up paying for the car on your own.

I agree with LDi. And really.... "I don't want anything from you... Wait! You're not going to help pay for my car? But I want you to do that!" .... contradictory, really.

The thought was we would work it out. I never thought she'd use it for so long because her credit was so bad and shed stick me with bill.

Thanks for the advice. I figured i wouldn't have many options. I'm not gonna get a attorney. I'll put the car online and find someone to take over payments probably. Who knew you could supply a vehicle for you and ur wife, let her piggy all off your credit to build hers, and then get left with no car urself. That's life though.

Why wouldn't you sell the car? Would she be willing to take the car as part of the divorce settlement?
