I live in Ohio, my 22 year old son moved out of his apartment at the end of his lease, without informing his landlord. After he was gone for approx 2 weeks, his landlord called me, telling me apt was trashed and full of junk. He is hinting for me to clean the apartment, and pay for damages. I never cosigned for my son, he was 21 yrs old when he rented the apt. I know it was left in terrible condition, however I had nothing to do with this! Is there any way I can be held responsible? i am very embarrassed at my son's actions. His landlord has called me repeatedly, wanting me to come and see the apt, I don't want to; he is harrassing me about my son's whereabouts, I do not know where my son is staying, which is very stressful to me, and making it even more stressful, the fact that his landlord is calling me. Can I be held responsible?

I dont know the specific laws in your state, but the former landlord has no reason to be contacting you. Next time he contacts you, advise him to stop contacting you. if he continues to contact you, you can contact your phone company and tell them that you are getting annoying and harrassing phone calls. They will place a trace on your phone and the police will be brought into the picture.

It is unfortunate that your son left the apt in such a messy state but it is NOT your responsibility.
