i owned a house with my exboyfriend (not married) in new york which we sold in july of 1998, but i had moved out in august of 1998. i today got papers left on my doorstep that we are being sued for 1 million dollars by a tenant who supposedly fell in the driveway in april of 1999. i know nothing about this as i was not living there ar the time. i have no idea where my ex is,two sets of papers were left on my doorstp one with my name one with his i guess they dont know where he is either. my question is can i be sued for this two years later, can i be sued alone, since we were joint owners of the house, is this somthing homeowners insurance will covers two years after the fact. also i did not sign for the papers. thank you
