State: California,...I am renting a room in a Condo, owned by my roommate's parents. The mortgage on this place is $750.00, and I am paying $775.00, which means I am paying the total cost to live here. Between the 2 of us, we devised a 6 month lease, which ends May 1st. I am moving on March 31st, and not honoring the lease, because of some conditions that were unlivable for me. I am a recovering addict, with 2 years sober, and my roommate is a big drinker, he also smokes pot on a daily basis. I did not know this when I moved in, nor did I know there was no heat, or the cat uses the bath tub as a toilet. I find it pretty nasty to have to clean up crap out of the tub in order to shower. He won't let me out of the lease, and I'm sure once I move he will not give me my $500.00 deposit, what can I do ? I went the whole winter without heat, and was sick for a month, he refused to let me buy an electric heater, because he paid the utilities. Repairs that were promised when I moved in were never done, and he accessed my room whenever he wanted to, used my computer, even came in while I was asleep. I had absolutely no privacy..
