If your landlord says you can't, and there's nothing in your lease that says you can, then you can't. He makes the rules. You can ask your neighbor if you can rent/share space in his shed.

Mike if your on a fixed term lease with some time left on the lease If you buy a portable shed the LL will likely not renew lease. IF you are month to month it will be sooner. If your lease is silent on the issue some might see it the other way if you really are planing on moving at the end of a year long lease and tell you go for it. So it really depends on if you have a long term lease or not. Personally here , I would enjoy watching a LL attempt to prove a lease violation in court if a written lease that has months to go on it where a lease was silent on the issue.

Why did you rent a home w/o a shed knowing you needed to store stuff and not DISCUSS putting in a shed BEFORE you signed your lease?

Rent a nearby storage shed and keep items there if they are being stolen.

when we rented the place, the property management's contract had 2 months left and we contacted them and they were going to have one put in. then the contract ended and the owner took over and he decided that no shed was allowed even he had one built next door for the neighbors. the owner has to think about everything before we get any action....for example a thermostat in the wall went nuts and the heaters were stuck on and I had to shut it off from the breaker box, called the landlord and he said just keep your power off and I will send someone to fix it. we had no one come out for 4 weeks and in the middle of winter.....stove went out and it took 3 weeks to get a new one. he came to our place without letting us know and just walked right in. no notice no nothing. maybe I need to wait for the lease to be up and get the hell out of this place

Mike repair issues are best backed up with written complaint sent via certified mail , The heating issue was not excusable, If your LL were sent notice and refused to comply with repairing the Tstat in a reasonable time ILL bet your city/ county inspections dept would have written a repair notice tied to a threat of condemnation if repairs were not done by certain date. Stove repair Same deal. SO based on only what your written lease says make a decision and follow it, If push comes to shove I suspect that if sheds of any type are not forbidden in the lease he wouldnt win a eviction hearing in court based on that alone.

The landlord does not have to be uniform.

He can allow the neighbor a shed and deny you the same permission.

He is doing nothing wrong.
