What is the name of your state? ohio
I have been in the asbestos field for about 20 years now, I have an excellent work record with every company I have worked for. I started working for a new company last November whose owner has other companies. The owner of my company hired me into another one of his companies to do a government funded job on a roof making prevailing wage. After 6 days on the job I was let go because I am white. I was told that there has to be 2 black men for every 1 white man. In my opinion it should rely on your work, your attendance and your attitude. The man who complained about me and basically got me fired is a black man whose only beef is that I relayed a message from the supervisor. This black man barely shows up for work and when he does he leaves when he wants. When he is there everybody is complaining about him always taking off and disappearing. I do not have a problem with the fact that he is black, I have lots of black friends and have worked side by side with many more. Is there anything I can do?

**A: where is your evidence that you were let go because you are white?

They said that since it is a governemnt funded job that it is the law that you have to have 2 blacks to every 1 white. Is that the law or not?

No, there is absolutely not a law that says on a government funded job there must be two black workers to every one white worker. There isn't even a law that could be misunderstood to be saying that. I suppose it's possible that their AAP has that written into it but that's a far cry from being law.

There is about 1 chance in 10,000 that THIS PARTICULAR job has been ordered to have that ratio. On VERY rare occasions, if an employer is found by the EEOC to have been illegally discriminating to an exceptionally high degree, they are ordered to correct the ratio. But that is an EXCEEDINGLY rare occurance.

Assuming this post is for real (and the only reason I'm saying that is that I'm having a hard time believing that a supervisor could be so stupid as to say something like that, but then a lot of people are stupid so who knows?) then run, do not walk, to the nearest EEOC office and file a complaint of racial discrimination.

I know a lot of people would look at this and say it can't be true but it is. They have hired a black man to take my place.
Thanks for the input and I will take your advice and go to the EEOC.

ut hu I better look for another job if it is....

This new company is discriminating since the only criteria is 2 blacks for every white person. And there is no criteria ratio for blacks to Aisan, Hispanics, Native Americans etc.
