Can I do this? Can I be Sued?

Hi Bought a surfboard and took it to a local shop and asked how to get old wax off it. Saleman looked at board and sold me a bottle of a commercial wax remover and told me how to use it. I followed directions and it took graphics off board. making a 700.00 board not resellable.(everything smeared) I went to store owner who stated "You can't use that on that type of board it will ruin the graphics, all our sales people do not know that, if youu bought the board here we could help, buy stickers and put it over the damage" Wax remover company told me to basically &^((^%HY. I was treated like a tourist in the small town I live in at a shop I have spent over 3,000 dollars in over the past 5 years. I thought of small claims, and still may. But I am thinking of just tying board to truck and declaring problem I had with store and product company on board for all of town to see. I think I may get more personal satisfaction out of that. Just curious of legality.thanks in advance

So basicallly they can sue me for slander even if its the truth..Can they win if its the truth? I think I can win in small claim..I think once I send a demand letter I will get a settlement. I am not to worried about that part. I think I just want to let people know what jerks they were regarding service. If I won in small claims would that be enough defense to defend against slander case?

and sarcasm thanks ref taking wax off by hand...good for you...I had my reasons for this route which obviously won't be taken again. People also used to walk to the store and to work if someone asked about a car accident would "i used to walk" also be your reply? I just wanted some helpful information. I have alot of NEW days of surfing ahead of me..I guess this is just really minor in my life as I look back on it in writing here. I think as I sit here looking at the beach I shall grab my messed up board and take it for a ride, because it is a beautiful day here on the central coast of California!
