I JUST TURNED 18 YEARS OLD 2 MONTHS AGO AND I AM A SENIOR IN HIGH SCHOOL. I HAVE BEEN PHYSICALLY THREATENED BY A 16 1/2 YEAR OLD HIGH SCHOOL DROP OUT. HER MOTHER SAYS SHE WILL PRESS CHARGES AGAINST ME IF WE DO HAVE A PHYSICAL CONFRONTATION BECAUSE I AM A LEGAL ADULT EVEN THOUGH SHE IS OVER TWICE MY SIZE AND WE ARE LESS THAN A YEAR AND 1/2 APART IN AGE. SHE HAS THREATENED AND HARASSED ME REPEATEDLY AND I DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO. CAN I FILE A RESTRAINING ORDER AGAINST A MINOR IN THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA OR DO I HAVE TO FILE AGAINST HER PARENTS?? PLEASE HELP!!

My response:

Yes, you can. Go to your courthouse on Monday, and see the criminal courts clerk. Ask for Temorary Restraining Order (TRO) papers and fill them out, saying what the idiot has done to you (you must be extremely specific) "and that you are in present fear for your life and safety." It won't cost you one, thin, dime. Then, have the TRO papers served on the idiot and her idiot mother by the police agency, or sheriff agency, there at the courthouse (ask the clerk). That might cost you a little bit. The clerk will give you a hearing date to go before the judge (a week to ten days) to determine whether the TRO should be made into Permanent Orders. While waiting for the court date, the TRO papers will inform the idiots to stay at least 100 feet away from you, and not communicate with you in any fashion, among other things they shall not do. If, in the interim, the little creep violates the TRO, then call a cop immediately and have her little ass hauled in for an arrest. When the court date comes up, bring all witnesses with you.

Your life and safety should never be made an issue. You are entitled to your freedom from fear. Go on the offense now, and that way, if they should do the same to you, it will look "retaliatory."

Go get 'em.

My response:

Wonderful !! You're on your way to regaining your "freedom," and putting your life back in order. When is your court date, and are you having the papers served today. Please, for the sake of others reading this, could you explain the process that *you* went through to file for the TRO?

And please, keep us informed of all events concerning this matter; from attempts by the idiots contacting you despite the TRO, and all the way through to the end of the hearing for Permanent Orders.

Thank you and glad to have helped.
