I live in Michigan, and in 1993 I loaned my sister $8,000.
I had her sign a note saying that she would repay it by
1996. Do I have a case or is it too late? Is the sum too
much for small claims court?

My response:

The good news: You have 10 years from the date the Note became due to sue your sister. So, in that respect, your Breach of Contract cause of action is still viable.

The bad news: Your State has a $3,000.00 cap in Small Claims. If you want the whole enchilada, you're going to need to sue her in District Court.
