Earlier today I signed papers to purchase a new car, with possession to take place in three days. I went with financing through the dealer and agreed to several dealer optional coverages that, when I got home and looked at the contract, totalled to near $7,000 over the life of the loan. I notified the salesman by email one hour later that I now wished to decline those optional coverages but still purchase the car. What are my legal rights if my request is denied. Can I cancel the entire purchase since I have not yet taken possession of the vehicle?

Many of those optional coverages can be canceled with a refund being sent for the unused portion.

That is the wrong time to be looking at the contract. You're supposed to look at (carefully and thoroughly) before you sign it.

I can almost guarantee that the dealer isn't going to voluntarily let you out of anything.
