Then how can you give her something in lieu of child support when she already has a half interest in that something.

If you become the non-custodial parent, you will have to get a job.

Otherwise child support arrears will accrue with interest for the rest of your life.
Unless OP has a benefactor, it is very likely that even if he is the custodial parent, he will need to find a job. Child support seldom pays for all the child-related costs incurred by the custodial parent, let alone provide for all of the parent's needs.

@David39NY Do you expect to receive maintenance from your STBX?

To be equitable, STBX (the monied spouse) needs to pay OP what is necessary to provide OP with the lifestyle he has been accustomed during the marriage. OP can choose to work for extra money or not keeping below the threshold where the alimony payments would be adversely affected. Unless something has changed that is how it works in New York.

Bali, you know that it doesn't work entirely like that. You are giving the OP the wrong impression. Yes, depending on how much money the wife actually makes, the OP may be eligible for some alimony. However, the fact that she works full time and he "helps" her run her Amazon store is going to factor into the mix as well. I suspect that it is her store in name only.
