What is the name of your state?
P.A.
years ago, my husband worked for a company who was unionized thru united mine workers, the company closed up, and after 18 years of working there all we got was 1000 severance pay, and a promise of the pension when he turns 65, now considering what companies and our government is doing to assure that very few of us will even see a pension, I wanted to know if there is a way to get it off the union and put it in our own account so we have it.
I really dont understand how pensions work, but all I do know is we will be one of the lucky ones to end up with any check by the time he retires.we have no retirement savings because we dont earn enough to put money into anything, were lucky we can save money to pay our taxes and home owners insurance each year. my husband is 44 so we have little time to fool around.
any advice?
