 i am engaged to my boyfriend and have been separated(not legally) from my husband for almost two years. i filed for a divorce on march 19 2002 and I live in california. If we can get married faster than the 6 months we will be moving to Texas because he is in the military. My question is...Is there any faster way to get married to him than to wait the 6 month waiting period.

Until your divorce if finalized by following the procedure for the state it is filed in you can not be recognized as legally married. You stated when you filed but when will it be final? Have you researched the waiting period for re-marriage AFTER it is finalized - many states have a time period above and beyond the time you wait for the divorce that you are restricted from marrying AFTER the divorce so you need to know the legalities of all of this.
You need to consider making the move with him as an unmarried couple and having him live in off base housing with you or you waiting unitl you are able to be legally married to him to join him at his new duty station........

My response:

The six months starts from the date your husband responds to the Petition, or defaults (e.g., the 30 days for a response to the Petition has expired). There is no faster method to obtain a decree of dissolution.

Is your husband cooperative in the proceedings, or will he fight the Petition? Did you file your Proof of Service of the Petition with the court? You know, it would be an excellent idea for you to buy a book on the subject at Barnes and Noble bookstore. That way, you'll have a step-by-step guide so you'll know what you're doing in this litigation.

Once the decree of dissolution has been signed by the judge, there are no further waiting periods for remarriage.

Just out of curiousity, is the reason you want to get married sooner than 6 month so that the military will move your stuff to his new duty station? If so there are other ways to do it just in case you can't get married before the time he leaves.

Ok, have to chime in on this one...

Why would someone want to get married before they have finished a divorce?

Took me five years after the first one to do the dirty deed again. Now after this one, a team of wild horses could not drag me down the aisle.

People often ask me if I will get married again. I tell them no, because I feel like the guy that kept hitting himself in the the head with a hammer. When people would ask him why he hit himself in the head with a hammer he would say,

"Because it feels so good when I stop."

Good Luck to the poster.
