What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California

Can I set up an escrow account and have an officer of the court hold the rent for me for the remaining 2 months of my lease? My landlord is a real estate attorney and has neglected to fix things and harassed me ever since I moved into his property.

I am very concerned he is going to keep my deposit and want to protect myself.

Thank you!

Did you report via certified mail any and all legitimate repair issues to the LL and keep a copy of your letter with the certified reciept ? If not then you have no provable complaint and should pay your rent as planned , give proper notice of not renewing and take pics of the things the LL never repaired so your able to offer them with your copy of the repair complaint to the court should you in the end have to sue to get deposit funds that are held back for damage claim you didnt do returned to you.

You need to have a VALID habitability issue to withhold rent which is what you are proposing....you need to have followed steps to document the property condition.

Just thinking you won't get your deposit is probably not good enough....you would stand a better chance suing him in small claims.
