What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California

I was contacted by a company in Florida, regarding that a relative had made some purchases through my phone from their company and that our relative had won a prize but that it could only be sent to the person who "owned' the number. I agreed to recieve a free prize from them and to talk to people about their product. Along with the free prize was a $1ooo, credit to use at any store. At the end of call I was advised that I just had to pay for the insurance and was told that it would be $129.00 and ONLY payable by cashiers check or money order, no personal check or credit card / ATM (COD). I told them that I dont agree to pay that much and now I am being threatened that I must pay or they will sue me and make sure that all court fees are added to my morgtage payment. I never gave them any personal information or even mentioned that I own my home (they assume). I was told that because I pressed #5 on the phone that was my electronic signature??

Can they really sue me? I have tried to talk to them but they will not let me get a word in when I call and they speak to me in a threating voice/manner.
I have til this Thursday to pick up package or else (their words).

tell them to bring on the lawsuit. I would bet dollars to doughnuts had you sent them the money, the package, if it was actually shipped, would be an empty box or a brick or some other worthless item.

don't even talk to them. If the number is shown, document it and how many times they call. If they do not quit quickly, contact the police and ask what, if anything, they can do or suggest.

This has the word SCAM written all over it. Try a reverse search of their phone number and also file a complaint with your state attorney's office. Either way, I wouldn't pay and use this as a lesson learned because it could have been worse had you given them private information.
