What is the name of your state? MI
I would like to sue a young women for slander. She used to live with us, her parents kicked her out and she had nowhere to go. While living in my house, she started dating my daughter’s boyfriend’s best friend. Months past, the arguments begun. To help this girl, I gave her $500 in cash and my credit card as collateral to get her car fixed. It was $1500 to fix her car and the mechanic new my family. I also got her a job with my best friend. Now that she was on her feet, she could move out.
My daughter packed her things, she came by to pick up her things and doing so she gave my daughter a letter. It was a 4-page letter with accusations about my daughter’s boyfriend. My daughter was screaming and so distraught over this letter she couldn’t even tell me what was in it. Her boyfriend was here at the time. Chrissy, the girl who wrote the letter states that my youngest daughter was having sex with my daughter’s boyfriend! My youngest daughter is 14, he is 19. I asked him calmly to leave. I was beside myself. My daughter was engaged to him, this was a horrible accusation. I went online and found a place in my area that did polygraph’s. The fee was $400. I took my youngest daughter to take the test and she past and I quote “with flying colors”. Needless to say this tore us all up. Even though she past, the fact that Chrissy would lie about something like that is sick. Needless to say, the entire letter was garbage. Even after what she put us through, she still owes me $254. I don’t expect a check in the mail anytime soon. I would like the money owed plus the fee for the polygraph. I have the letter as proof, the polygraph receipt, and a money order, which indicates a “balanced owed”.

Is there any type of legal recourse I can take against this girl for what she’s done? It’s not just the money I’m seeking, Is there something punishable by law?

Any help or advise, I’d be extremely grateful.

There are thousands of posts similar to yours so I have prepared a standard answer:

Get a lawyer.

Invest $20K and three years.

Sue the bad people for defamation.

If you win, expect them to keep doing it.

If you lose, expect them to keep doing it.

Stand by for other opinions.

right, mom was no falsly accused of anything so she cannot sue.

boyfriend was, but what were his damages/injuries? prove them and maybe he can sue.

sue for your money back? prove that there was a contract in which she agreed to repay you.

By your own admisssion, you "gave" her the money so you are not entitle to any money that you gave her.

Thank you everyone for the advise.

I did give her the money but with verbal agreement that she would pay it back. My fault for not getting something in writing. My heart over comes my brain which I now realize is a bad thing and It will never happen again.
The only proof I have is the money order she gave me and she wrote in the memo "balance owing and the amount". I made a copy of it before I cashed it.

As far as the slander part of it, I guess it's just the fact that someone can be so cruel and sick and nearly ruin someone's life. It tears me apart everyday and my family that someone could lie about something so horrible after everything I've done for this kid.
I have people tell me, welcome to the real world....this kind of thing happens everyday....but unless it happens to you or someone you love....you can't relate.

Thanks again everyone for your comments & advise.

" her parents kicked her out "

Did you ever find out why they kicked her out before you decided to bring this person into your home?

Did you have your youngest daughter take a lie detector test after she denied having sex or was that the first thing you arranged? If the former, why did you doubt her?

Her reason to me was that her parents had enough and that she was 22 years old and needed to get it together. Guess that was their way of showing her was kicking her out. I felt sorry for her and wanted to help. I'm a single mom with 2 kids...I swear to this day I don't know what I was thinking.

My youngest daughter, 14 years old has a history of lying. Chrissy said in her letter that my youngest told her this and Chrissy even had details that were pretty sick. I just couldn't rest.....wondering could my youngest lie about something like this OR could this of really happened. I had to know the truth.
She cried on the way home after the polygraph swearing to me that she would never lie to me again. I really hope she meant it!
