What is the name of your state? Massachusetts
I roomed with a man for approximately 3 weeks before moving out. The reason I moved out is because he moved in another woman who was his "sugarbabby" and in exchange for sex he paid her share of the rent. He started hitting on me and I told him if he didn't leave me alone I'd call the cops. He threatened that if i didn't sleep with him he'd sue me for july and august's rent ($1900 total). I signed the lease in july with him to secure the place, but it was understood by the landlords and him as well that I wasn't moving in until September, therefore wouldn't be responsible for rent. When i moved out, i was able to get out of the lease trouble free (it was on a 30 day notice schedule). That part I'm not even worried about, its just background info.
Anyway, when i moved out, he wrote my new roommate a letter full of lies, saying i stole things, was dating a married man, had threatened his life, and that i did drugs, none of which was true at all. He became enraged that i dare turn him down, and said that i "hadn't won yet". Then he started showing up at my new place everyday, demanding money from me. Me and my new roommate where so scared by him that we stopped answering the door and went to the police to get a restraining order, but since he had never actually said he was going to hurt us, they said we couldn't get one.
Anyway, he wrote my sister a letter, the former landlords, and even my mom (who lives in a different state, he got the address from my rent check) with the same lies. He's basically trying to ruin my life.
I was wondering that since i have proof (text messages, and 3 of the 4 letters), could i file a libel suit against him and what are my chances of winning? Also, how much should i try to get? I'm also thinking about filing harrassment. He will never leave me alone he said, until i pay him $5000. ( he moved in another girl who's rent he paid and couldn't afford the $1900 a month rent, so they all got evicted 2 months after i moved out and he's in debt for about $5k to the landlords)...he also tried to solicit money from my relatives in the letter. I have to do something, because he honestly won't leave me alone.
