I am 38 and my mom and I were abandoned by my Dad(my parents were never married). He never paid child support or anything, although he was/is financially well off. I grew up on welfare, my mother had several nervous breakdowns and we barely survived. Although I am college educated, I find that the severity of my proverty while growing up has hendered me greatly in finding and holding jobs. I was and still am very behind socially and culturally and finally settled into a factory
job where i make $8.00/hr. Although part of my impairment was caused by my mother's problems (kids teased us and called my mom names, made fun of our economic situation and such), could my Dad be held liable for anything at this late date? I think this might be a civil matter, but i couldnt find a civil forum.

My response:

Unfortunately, if you had a cause of action, it has passed long ago. However, any cause of action for failure to pay child support would have been your Mom's responsibility to act upon. If she didn't, then that Cause of Action has, likewise, passed long ago.

Be strong, take each day at a time, and try not to dwell on the past. You're educated, and you can do something with your life by looking forward.

Good luck to you.
