What is the name of your state? Minnesota
My mother was very sick with cancer (she has since passed away), I was staying with her and her second husband (The Old Goat) taking care of my mom. I left for 2 hours on New Year's Eve to go to my home, take a shower and returned immediately. My aunt and uncle were with her at this time because the old goat was not capable of taking care of her. Anyway, I return to their house and find out he had altered her will... I confronted him about it in front of my aunt and uncle, they sat in on the conversation and I was very cordial and didn't even raise my voice or threaten him in any way. After mom's funeral he told several people that New Year's Eve that I returned after SEVERAL hours of drinking and I tried to take care of my mother drunk...and that I "got in his face" and threatened him. My aunt and uncle can attest to the fact of me being TOTALLY sober and very calm!
My question is - can I sue the old goat for slander? Worth talking to a lawyer about or is it a waste of time?

*** Of course you can sue 'the old goat'. After all, anyone can sue almost anyone else over almost anything. However, you have NO case for a claim of slander. For one reason, how do you feel that his claims have DAMAGED you in any way. Presumably, the only people (your aunt and uncle) that heard these claims knew there were untrue, since your post says that they were there at the time of the alleged incident.

First I should clairify that I am my mothers personal rep and "the old goat" hates me because I didn't let him profit from my mothers death. She didn't have much, but what she did have was NOT his. But after I looked into different accounts he had his hands on everything.

anyway......
Yes, my aunt and uncle were there. He didn't make this claim to them, he made this claim to my brother and his wife, and several other people in town, including his pastor! I feel like he, at the very least, should be shown that you can't just say things like that about people when it is untrue. He told these things to my brother and his wife so that they would hold it against me and try and remove me as her personal rep. He told them all of these lies and then asked them if they would help him take and keep all of my mothers assets and he would split half with them and leave me and my other two brothers out of everything. He made our family life a living ____ for 2 months. Not just my own, all of my brothers families also. I thought I was going to have a nervious break down. (I have MS and he knew that if he stressed me out he could make me very sick, and he did.) The "old goat" would choke his own mother for a nickel. Anyway, I won the battle and took control of my mothers estate....he screwed us out of 50 grand...but that was a small price to pay to get rid of him! I just want him to feel the terror that I felt for those months and am still feeling because of his lies and actions. I live in a small rural town and believe me EVERYONE knows what is happening and the town is split because of it.
