What is the name of your state? NY

Hi,
I've posted here several times before, I'm an independent contractor, who does field marketing. So basically, I'm out walking on the streets all day, with a heavy backpack. I need chiropractic care though, because of the strenous nature of the job. Would I be able to write off these visits as work related? Note, I don't have any form of health insurance.

Thanks!

What exactly is "itemizing"?

Sorry, but I'm a newb. What exactly is "itemizing", and what should I be doing now to ensure that.

In order to deduct medical expenses, the costs must reach a certain percentage of your net income. If you don't know what itemizing is, you need the services of a tax professional. Go visit a local H&R Block or similar tax preparation service and they will take the time to explain everything to you. They after all want your business.

There's a section on the tax return for deductions. You have a choice to either take the "standard deduction" (an amount chosen by the govt) or itemize your deductions (list them out separately and add them up.) You only itemize deductions if your total is GREATER than the standard deduction (otherwise, you'd do better to choose the standard)

One type of deduction is for unreimbursed business expenses. Another is for medical expenses. These are subject to certain minimum & maximum values. As the man said, consult a tax preparer.
