WA State USA.

One chiropractor in WA state ran a promotion and advertisement said only $1 for exam and x-ray and after exam and x-ray on that day I asked for a statement and it showed total charge per service (i.e. x-ray and exam) and next column it showed patient write off of equivalent amount and net total is $1 which I already paid on the same day of service so balance is zero. Now I am suspicious about their intention when they mentioned 'write off' ...if they write off anything ...can they have tax deduction (benefit) of equivalent amount and can they report this write off to my credit report to damage my credit score? please note that I still have a copy of their promotional ad which says only $1 for exam and x-ray.They have more than few patients who participated in this promotion not only me.

Any write off, if there is one, was absolutely no benefit or detriment to you and should never be applied to your credit report.

And there would be no true tax deduction even for an accrual basis taxpayer. While their books might show 100% normal billing and 100% minus $1 allowances for each customer, it's not a true deduction because they were advertising a $1 special. Returns and allowances for medical practices are very high and normal because of contractual adjustments with insurance companies.
