I am working on Javascript program that uses the Microsoft Built In Editing functions to edit a website. Many people have similar software, for example http://www.webedpro.com, and the open source project: BP****editor. It seems that most of the functionality is built into Internet Explorer, and therefore patented by Microsoft. My questions is; can I patent or copyright my javascript? and how?

An alpha version of my text editor can be seen by going to

http://www.theolympiadirectory.com/draganddrop/revised/menu5.htm

simply click the add text button then click open editor. This version of the editor is very simple and has some bugs, but will give you an idea of what I am working with.

Thanks in advance
