What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? north carolina
I have been having noise issues from my neighbor. I get woken up at night so many times. I made a complaint to the property management about 2.5 weeks ago & this lady i spoke told me that they will send out a letter.
The situation wasn't getting any better & I reached the breaking point when I got woken up 3 times last night.
I have kept a record of when/how my neighbor kept me up. This morning I went to the property management to make another complaint. This lady asked me what I wanted to do so i said "I don't want to break the lease, but I can't deal with the noise. maybe move to another apartment" and she went to talk to the manager, came back and said "If you are unhappy with your apartment we will let you get out of the lease. we will not move you and you cannot rent from us" Isn't that landlord retaliation? I thought landlords can refuse to rent base on sound business principles? I pay rent on time every month. I have no criminal history or activity going on. Nobody has made a complaint against me. How is this fair? Either deal with the noise or leave ? i wish i could just say "peace out" and take that offer and get out of the lease but the property management owns over 80% of apartments in this town that are affordable and nice.
