What is the name of your state? California

If someone breaks their lease on an apartment I have been told that if a management company (or anyone else for that matter) rents out that apartment then the management company cannot come after you for the remainder of the rent.

Is this true?

If you broke a lease the management has a obligation to make reasonable effort to re rent the unit to another customer. Management can hold you responsible for the vacant time inbetween and reasonable cost associated with re renting the unit. SO if it takes them 3 weeks to get a new tenant in you will owe 3weeks of rent plus cost associated with re renting the apt.
