What is the name of your state? Oklahoma

In 2004 I gave birth to my daughter my insurance did not cover some of the birthing costs so I got a bill for $2300 . I told the hospital that I would be contacting my insurance company to find out why this was not paid. I contacted them they said there was nothing I could do because these things were not covered by my insurance period. I was told by my insurance company while pregnant that since I was labeled a high risk pregnancy (on bed rest throughout most of pregnancy) they would cover everything the doctor ordered.
I contacted the hospital and told them I was filing a greivance with my insurance company and they informed me they had turned my bill over to a debt collection agency.

This debt collection agency contacted me I told them what I had told the hospital and they said I still needed to make payment arrangements to pay off this debt. I explained to them I have no job I stay at home take care of kids while my bf works so there is no way I can make payment arrangements. They then contacted by bf at work and told him that he is responsible for the bill since he signed the paternity papers as the father. They threatened him with a judgement against him so he decided to go ahead and make arrangements to pay $95.00 every 2 weeks for the next 10 months and just get it taken care of. He signed absolutely NO papers claiming resonsibility for MY care at this hospital so how can they make him pay for MY bills?? These are not bills for anything done to the child it is all tests that were run on me while pregnant and giving birth.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Yes, you and the baby's father have to pay the bills for the baby.

Umm.. I don't think so. This isn't treatment or care of the child, its HER hospital bills for the delivery.. not exactly the same thing.

Your BF should not have caved in to the collector's threats and BS information. Further, since you are not married, calling your BF on YOUR debt would be 3rd party disclosure and a violation of the FDCPA, never mind coercing money from him when you have a valid dispute with the insurance company. If they insurance company finally does pay up to the hospital, your BF is NEVER going to get any money back from the collector !

Thanks I didn't think this was right and I told him not to do it. He just wants them to stop calling him at work and they wouldn't even after his boss told them to stop so he gave in. Can he stop the payment arrangements he's already started or can this get him in trouble??
