What is the name of your state? Wisconsin

In and around March, I evidently received a statement about some stock we own and in the envelope was a notice that as of July 1, they will be charging $50 for stock under a certain amount.

About 2 weeks ago, the stockbroker left a message on my machine telling me about this charge. I figured "OK, charge me."

Well, a few days ago, I got a letter saying that they sold my stock!!! They took out their commission and also the $50!!!

We called immediately and were told that it MUST be legal otherwise the company wouldn't have told him he could do it.

Can they resort to self-help even though I never received a bill for the money?? I certainly would have sent the $50.

They didn't ASK for the money, just said it would be a charge.
