I recently signed an employment agreement, stating pay, benefits, etc. I signed and dated the agreement. However, at the bottom there was a note which stated: "Please note that you will be expected to stay in this position for a minimum of 12 months." Is this binding? If so, what recourse does the company have, if I decide to leave prior to 12 months? Thx.

My response:

From a legal standpoint, it's meaningless.

What does ". . . expected to stay" mean ? The word expected, in the absence of some definition, is extremely vague. If a word or phrase is vague, rendering the statement, term or clause ambiguous, then it's unenforceable.
