My 17 year old son was fired from a job he held for over a year; two others were fired along with him. He went to a blog site and posted his feelings about being fired, using colorful language. He did not use the owner's name, nor the name of the business; but rather was venting as he thought he'd had a great job and now was going to have to find another job. The owner is claiming that he can sue us because my son posted his feelings in a public forum and anyone who knew where he worked would know who he was talking about. The only thing my son said about the owners was: 'they were nice people'. Does anyone know if his threat to sue us has any validity?

Of course he can sue you and your son. But he'll lose. So, if he files a suit you countersue for costs and legal fees.
