I am in Louisiana.

There was a woman I dated, she bought me a very expensive ring ($1300)for my birthday as a gift. At the time we broke up, I offered twice to give her everything she bought me, she refused to take it. It has been two years since this incodent and she now wants the ring back. She told me she talked to a judge and that he will get back the ring and court costs from me. Can this happen?

My response:

Well, that depends upon her "story", and whether yours is more credible than hers.

She will explain her circumstances of how that ring came into your possession, and you will explain yours. And, then each of you will explain your relationship to the judge; e.g., length of relationship, past practices concerning gifts between you two, when the ring was "given" to you, and under what circumstances. Were there witnesses, was there a card that you kept ? All of these matters, and more, will help a judge determine who wins and who loses.
