What is the name of your state? Live in Texas.

I used to live in Canada (I am a Canadaian citizen) and have 2 Canadian credit cards with a total balance of $35,000. I am unable to handle the payments.

I now live and work in the US (Texas). If the Canadian companies eventually take me to court and win a judgement, can they garnish my US wages or take my US assets?

Thanks...

My response:

Why aren't you paying?

I mean, from my understanding of the exchange rates, your $35,000 Canadian debt is like, about, $10.49 U.S.

I don't think anyone on this board can fully answer that question. This forum only gives advice pertaining to the US Collection Laws.

However, I can tell you that there is no wage garnishment in Texas and Texas has an unlimited homestead. Your paycheck and your house is safe.

Everyone

Thanks for the replies...I know my situation is a little unique, but I wanted to ask anyways. Just getting the info on garnishment in Texas is a lot of help!

I appreicate any other feedback anyone else may have!

Cheers!
