Canadian Married to American, divorcing. Can she be sent back to Canada?

My friend and yes it's for a friend, is a Canadian married to an American for 25 years, they have 2 children 25 and 21 one out of college one in the middle.

Canadian wife has permanent residency, a home, vehicles, stay home mom to raise the kids. Husband wandered now found a 25 year old and has left wife. No attorney seems to know if she is able to get alimony or even if she can stay in the country if she were to get a divorce.

Any help, or pointing in the right and cheapest direction would be helpful, she does not have a lot of money to pursue a divorce.

Has she spoken to an Immigration attorney? I would think that, as a PERMANENT resident, she could stay. But she should be finding herself a job.

It really would be best if she signed up and asked for herself. She will have info that you may not be privy to.

If she has had a green card for 25 years then yes, she absolutely can stay in the country. She also could apply for and receive citizenship, without needing her soon to be ex husband's sponsorship. Since she has never worked, and has not become a citizen yet, she also could get alimony. Not just via a divorce proceeding, but according to the affidavit of support that he signed when he sponsored her green card. I am surprised that attorneys she has consulted seem so clueless on the issue.
